PERCUSSION	A limited amount of percussion players will be accepted - on a first come, first served basis! Please be prepared to choose an alternate instrument if you do not get to play percussion. Instruments may be rented/purchased from Rettig Music. You can contact them through their website or by phone: 1-800-52-MUSIC. A representative from Rettig's will be at the parents' meeting on February 2nd (7:00pm in the band room) to take sign-ups for instrument rental or purchase.

PLEASE do not purchase your instrument from a discount retailer like Wal-Mart. These instruments are cheaply made and often cannot be repaired! Likewise, buying off of Ebay is a huge risk. Please check with ms. Hare before spending any money on a questionable purchase. If you are looking at a used instrument to by, you can bring it to the band room at any time and we can check it out and make sure it is a good instrument.

We will be using the Standard of Excellence band book (red). You can purchase this through Rettig Music, or pre-order a copy through Ms. Hare in the band room.

RULES FOR BAND

Bring your instrument, book, pencil, small notebook, and any necessary instrument accessories to every class.
Do NOT play your instrument until told to do so!
Please do not share or trade instruments with others (germs...yuck!)
NO ONE is allowed to touch any percussion equipment in the room except for those students who are percussionists and have learned that particular instrument.
PRACTICE SHEETS are worth 10 points each week. They should be filled out, signed by a parent, and turned in weekly. If you forget, you may turn in your practice sheet on the second day of that week and receive 5 points.
Practicing is considered homework and should be done regularly.
Clarinet and Saxophone players should always keep 3-4 dollars with you or in your case to purchase a new reed in case one breaks. Please keep two reeds on hand at all times.
Trumpet players need to keep a bottle of valve oil in their case for proper maintenance of their instrument. Likewise, trombone players need slide oil.
